With almost a month still left in the resident application process, it appears that the Department has already achieved success in attracting superb resident candidates for the 2010-11 academic year. To date, the Department has received six hundred and ten applications for the eight slots that are available. Three hundred and ten of these applicants scored in the 99th percentile on their USMLE Step I exam. The next one hundred and thirty nine applicants scored in the 90th percentile or above. Additionally one hundred and one of the applicants are members of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. The Department will invite approximately one hundred students to interview this year all of whom are attending the top ranked medical schools in the United States. In addition, the Department had thirty-two fourth year students rotate through the department. Five of these students were from the University of Pittsburgh. All of the students that rotated will make excellent interns in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh continues to attract the best and the brightest. It is anticipated that the Department will have another successful year in the match and look forward to having another high quality intern group starting in June. The superb faculty, excellent research support and facilities, and the comprehensive training and exposure that residents can achieve at our facilities are second to none. All of these factors have moved this Program to the forefront in the country. |
