| Presentation Title: |
"Translating Spermatogonial Stem Cell Transplantation to the Clinic" |
| |
| Presentation Details: |
Research in Dr. Orwig’s laboratory focuses on spermatognonial stem cells (SSCs), the stem cells in the testis that maintain sperm production from puberty to old age in men. Studies in the Orwig lab range from fundamental to applied in nature. For this WIP presentation, Dr. Orwig will describe recent progress translating spermatogonial stem cell transplantation to the clinic for the purpose of treating male infertility. One potential application of this technology is to preserve the fertility of male cancer survivors. Chemotherapy and radiation treatments for cancer can damage fertility, sometimes permanently. Responsible development and translation of the SSC transplantation technique to the clinic may offer “fertile hope” to cancer survivors and have implications for their outlook and quality of life after cancer.
