Description: Dr. Frank W. Jobe is a world-renowned Orthopaedic Sports Medicine surgeon from southern California. He started his career in the 101st airborne division as a medical supply Sergeant in World War II where he was inspired by the military physician's tireless dedication to their patients. He attended medical school at Loma Linda University and did his orthopaedic training at Los Angeles county hospital. In 1964 he began his relationship as orthopaedic consultant to the Los Angeles Dodgers, a title that he still holds today.

Currently Dr. Jobe is an Orthopaedic consultant to the Los Angeles Lakers, PGA Tour, Senior PGA Tour, Los Angeles Kings, and California Angels along with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 1974 he performed the first ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction of Dodgers pitcher Tommy John. This historic procedure, now known as Tommy John surgery, helped pitchers return to the mound where before they would be forced into early retirement. Dr. Jobe also performed successful rotator cuff repair surgery on Orel Hershiser in 1990 with the help of suture anchors. With the information from early clinical trials on suture anchors from University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Jobe applied this to his practice of shoulder surgery and helped revolutionize current arthroscopic techniques. With over 140 medical publications, 7 authored book and 24 book chapters his commitment to the further expansion of medical knowledge is clear.

Dr. Jobe has dedicated his life’s work to the advancement of Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics. It was with great honor that we recognized Dr. Jobe and awarded him with an honorary Sports Medicine plaque by the Department.
