| Description: |
Dr. Fu demonstrated virtual reality knee arthroscopy surgery on July 2 for his Foreign Fellows at UPMC Center for Sports Medicine. Dr. Fu and his Fellows were surprised by the similarity of the virtual image to the real human anatomic knee structure. Dr. Fu explained the anatomic structure of ACL (box in upper right corner of picture) composed of double bundles. They observed the dark colored border (septum) between AM (anteromedial) bundle and PL (posterolateral) bundle of ACL which was formed by the anatomic configuration of two separate bundles. This simulation equipment was in development for 8 years by Karl Reinig, PhD (Touch of Life Technologies) with W. Dilworth Cannon, MD (the head of the AAOS content development group for the simulator). The anatomic data was collected and reconstructed by capturing of high resolution digital image after milling away with 0.1mm slice thickness. |
