Robert Goitz, M.D. helped perform the first double hand transplant in the U.S. at UPMC on May 4th , 2009. The 57 year old patient from Augusta, Georgia had lost his hands and feet from a strep infection a decade ago. The surgery took less than 9 hours. This was the second hand transplant performed at UPMC. |
